Late Tax Returns

 

If you have late tax returns or simply have tax problems you wish to sort through, TAX logic can assist you and provide the tax help you need. You may get more tax back than you thought.

Will I get fined for being Late?

The answer is maybe!

 

The Tax Office is well within their rights to impose a fine for late lodgement of tax returns or late payment of tax. However, their current position is to be quite reasonable and not impose a fine where a refund is due. We have also successfully argued down fines and in most cases have them waived altogether.

 

 

Do I get extra time to Lodge going through a Tax Agent?

Yes, for next year. For the first year you use a tax agent, you should lodge your tax return by 31 October of that tax year. In future years, you will have until 31 March to lodge where you stay on our books as a client.

 

 

What if I have lost my PAYG Summaries?

PAYG Summaries (or Group Certificates as they were known in the earlier years) are essential to completing your tax return.
If you have misplaced your PAYG Summaries or moved address and never received them then we recommend the following approach:

  • Go back to the HR department of your employer and request they email your PAYG Summary to you
  • For the years 2007 & 2008 we can often look them up on your account thanks to recent data matching efforts by the Tax Office. In this case, we can advise you what your wages positions were for those years
  • If all else fails, then review your resume to work out the period you were at various employers and we will complete a Statutory Declaration for missing PAYG Summaries on your behalf

 

If you haven't lodged your 2008 tax return (or earlier), then now is a good time to start getting your tax affairs in order.
